Safeguarding

All Cross Cultures Coaches in the basic Open Fun Football School training discover how to create a positive and conducive learning environment for children and what is the basic elements of being a good coach. Cross Cultures coaches are also exposed to our fundamental values and principles including safeguarding children in sports.

Below you will find further opportunities to develop your knowledge, attitudes and behaviour relating to Child safeguarding in sports. The training will develop your competence as a coach, but also your own knowledge about rights and duties and about Cross Cultures Safeguarding Approach and our supporting mechanisms to all coaches.

Cross Cultures Safeguarding in Sports Training is mainly comprised of the following: The Cross Cultures Safeguarding Children in Sport Workbook and the Seminar Report on Safeguarding Children in Sport in Jordan. Specific Child Safeguarding seminars have been undertaken in several countries, including Tunisia, Moldova, Jordan and Ukraine. Fortunately, also other organisations have developed training material that is relevant and useful for our safeguarding efforts. In particular, UEFA and FIFA have developed toolkits and videos providing Cross Cultures with a lot of inspiration when developing our approach.

The training is organised in the following sections – Firstly by organisation and secondly by topic.

Recognizing Child Abuse

As a coach, you may find that a child in your group is showing signs of having been abused, neglected or violated. However, it is also often very difficult to see the signs as children typically will try to hide their real situation. It is Cross Cultures policy that we register and report the cases of concern to the relevant social authorities, and that coaches are not to explore or investigate the cases as professional child expertise is needed in this area.

As a coach, you may be wondering how far-reaching your role and responsibility is in safeguarding children. And there may be dilemmas that can be difficult to manage.
